Important information for our EU customers 14.08.2026 – Posted in: News
Important information for all of our EU customers! The EU’s Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) now apply in all 27 member states. In simple terms, under the new rules, any webshop that ships a parcel to an EU country must report the packaging and pay for its local waste management. Each business must first register in each EU country, hire a local authorised representative, pay the annual flat rate to be eligible as a producer, and finally report and pay for any packaging waste that their shipments bring into the country. The fees and policy are the same regardless of business size.
For us, this means that we must regrettably suspend all our EU service for now. The administrative burden, flat-rate annual fees per country, and legal risks of non-compliance are simply too much.
There is a lot of turmoil around this at the moment. It may be that the legislation will be amended to include a de minimis threshold and a single, centralised EU portal for reporting. In the meantime, we just have to wait and see, sign petitions, and contact our MEPs to urge them to take action.
We at Bookmarchitecture Oy fully support protecting our planet and reducing waste. However, we strongly oppose the destruction of the EU’s original single market ideal and the creation of disproportionate barriers to cross-border trade for microbusinesses. Our sales to EU countries account for 43% of our annual revenue. We do this for the love of architecture, not for money.
We will continue serving anyone in Finland, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, the UK, Canada, Australia, and Asian countries, or elsewhere, as usual. We have resumed our service to the US as of today. If you live in the EU and are interested in buying anything in our catalogue, please email us at info@bookm-ark.live to discuss a solution. We are truly sorry about this turn of events, but let’s hope that the EU and national politicians resolve this quandary as quickly and wisely as possible.
