Grundlagen und Entwicklung der Architektur, by Hendrik Petrus Berlage (1908), is based on a series of four lectures that the Dutch architect Hendrik Petrus Berlage (1856–1934) delivered at the Kunstgewerbemuseum in Zurich in 1907. The book had a major influence on the development of Dutch modernism, including the Amsterdam School and later the more radical De Stijl movement.
The text is in German. The book is illustrated with some black-and-white photographs and architectural drawings.
Our copy is in nice condition for its age. The pages are clean; some pencil markings and underlines. There is a stamp and an embossing indicating the previous architect owner on the first flyleaf. The pages are somewhat toned, and the binding is a bit loose. The covers show some traces of shelf wear and use.
